Summer has settled into one of those stretches that reminds you why Vermont gets under your skin. Warm days, cool mountain nights, and plenty of reasons to spend as much time outside as possible. Here’s what’s worth putting on your radar over the next few days.
Smuggs FIFA Fun!
Bootleggers’ Lounge opens at 7:00 pm as we get ready for a big night of soccer. Whether you grab a seat in the lounge or settle in at the Pizzeria, you’ll have a great spot to catch the action as the U.S. Men’s National Team takes on Belgium in a knockout round match beginning at 8:00 pm. Expect a lively atmosphere, cold drinks, and hopefully plenty to cheer about. Open to all ages, but 18 & under must be accompanied by an adult!
Guided Hikes Tuesday and Wednesday
Spectacular weather has been forecasted into Tuesday and Wednesday, setting the stage for two of our favorite guided hikes.
On Tuesday, join our Guided Sterling Pond Hike. Tucked high in the mountains, Sterling Pond is the highest stocked trout pond in Vermont. Every spring, trout are ushered up the mountain by chairlift before hiking season begins, making for one of the more unique fish stocking operations you’ll find anywhere.
Wednesday’s guided adventure heads to the summit of Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak. The ridgeline and famous Chin reward hikers with sweeping 360 degree views across the Green Mountains, Adirondacks, and White Mountains. Along the summit you’ll also pass through a rare alpine tundra ecosystem where subarctic vegetation survives in one of the few places it naturally exists in the eastern United States.
Beat the Heat in the Brewster River
This week is a perfect opportunity to discover one of the area’s favorite natural swimming spots.
The Brewster River has been helping Smuggs families cool off for generations. One of the easiest access points is Brewster River Park in nearby Jeffersonville, where you’ll find convenient parking, a grassy shoreline, and gentle, shallow water that’s perfect for younger children to splash around. An added bonus being the covered bridge right at the entrance to the park.
If you’re up for a short walk, follow the riverside trail upstream to the Jeffersonville Gorge. Here, the Brewster River squeezes through towering rock walls before tumbling through a series of cascades, creating one of the area’s most impressive natural scenes. It’s an ideal place to spend a warm summer afternoon, skip a few stones, or simply let the cool mountain water do its thing.
